Irish Railway Foundation Project

Project Information:

Location: Ballinasloe, Co. Galway, Ireland
Period: May 2019
Contract Value: Approx. RMB 60 million

Project Challenge:

A double-track section of the Irish National Railway passes through swampy soft ground in the Lake District.
Uneven settlement caused trains to slow down significantly, resulting in low efficiency and serious safety risks.
Conventional ground improvement methods required track removal, making them costly, time-consuming, and impractical for live railways.

Our Solution:

Designed and recommended helical pile (micro-pile) foundations for railway trackbed stabilization.
Developed a load testing and monitoring scheme to ensure quantifiable reinforcement effects.
Completed design and full-scale manufacturing in China, supplying all screw piles for the project.
Provided construction methodology and technical guidance, with installation carried out by our Irish partner company.
Innovated a quick-joint pile head system, enabling screw-in installation to 1m depth underground, significantly improving installation efficiency. This system was later granted an EU invention patent.

Project Results & Benefits:

Safety & Performance: Resolved soft ground settlement issues and restored normal train speeds.
Cost Efficiency: Reduced foundation costs by approximately 30% through Chinese production and supply.
Construction Speed: Quick-joint technology accelerated installation and shortened the project schedule.
Innovation Achievement: Secured an EU invention patent, a milestone in railway trackbed stabilization.
Value-added Services: Provided free design consulting and construction guidance to support successful delivery.
